Pilates: A form of exercise that is non-impact and provides complete toning. The client uses the "powerhouse" (which is the abdominals and lower back) to keep body alignment while performing the exercises. No more than 10 repetitions are performed in each exercise, but the client does many different exercises within a session. There are over 600 exercises to choose from. If a person has an injury, an exercise can be modified to suit them or be eliminated entirely. |

Feldenkrais and Awareness through Movement: The Feldenkrais Method was developed by Moshe Feldenkrais. Dr. Feldenkrais was a distinguished scientist, physicist and engineer. Feldenkrais combines insights from physics, motor development, biomechanics, psychology and martial arts to develop a powerful, effective and practical application that reconnects learning with human health and function. Feldenkrais is a means to reengage the nervous system in the kind of learning we do as infants, but later typically abandon. The body becomes engaged in a process of organic learning where old (potentially harmful) habits can be replaced by new awareness and skill.
Using a combination of guided attention and purposeful movement, each lesson guides you through the essential dynamic relationships in a particular pattern of movement and action. Awareness through Movement teaches you the secrets to reducing unnecessary muscular effort while improving your awareness of your whole self in action. The emphasis on sensory learning results in movement and vitality that is more flexible, generating a more pleasurable form with less aches and pains. The lessons are easy to do and can benefit all.
